
María Teresa Ramírez Pandolfo is the Director of the Department of International Relations of Chile’s National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT). She is also Chile’s Science and Technology representative to the EU–LAC process, the OAS, APEC, and UNASUR.
She graduated in Medical Technology from the Universidad de Chile, and later specialized in International Relations at the Institute of International Studies of the same university, the Diplomatic Academy of Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and APEC.
Until 1991, María Teresa Ramírez worked in the Department of Physiopathology of the School of Medicine at the Universidad de Chile. During that time, she was engaged in teaching and also in research, focusing on the effects of alcohol and radiation on the functioning of the central nervous system. She has co–authored several ISI articles that have been published in neurochemistry journals.
Since 1991, she works at CONICYT, and from that time until 2001 she was the Executive Board’s Coordinator for the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FONDECYT). Ramírez also coordinated the FONDECYT study groups, and acted as Technical Secretary of FONDECYT’s Councils for Scientific and Technological Development.
From 2001 to 2008, she worked as Program Coordinator at the Department of International Relations, in charge of bilateral and multilateral cooperation with other countries. María Teresa Ramírez has led the Department since 2008.
