María Elena Boisier, Directora Fondecyt

María Elena Boisier Pons

María Elena Boisier Pons graduated in Anthropology from the Universidad de Chile. She attended graduate studies in Project Evaluation at that same university (1995), and also obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (1998). Between 1982 and 1985, she studied Engineering at the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the Universidad de Chile.

Boisier has developed her professional career in the area of science and technology program management. Between 1993 and 1996, she was an analyst at CONICYT’s Studies Department. From 1999 to 2006, she worked as Sub–director of the Millennium Scientific Initiative (ICM), whose objective is to finance science and technology research at the level of research centers of excellence.

In June 2006, she became Director of CONICYT’s Fondecyt (National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development) and Fondap (Fund for Research Centers of Excellence).

From October 2009 to May 2010, María Elena Boisier was Acting President of CONICYT, and in June 2010 she returned to her position as Director of Fondecyt and Fondap.
