
Gonzalo Herrera Jiménez possesses a broad background in scientific and technological innovation, and currently heads the team of professionals working for CONICYT’s FONDEF Program, with the goal of establishing ties between the scientific and business communities through joint research and development projects.
Herrera graduated as a Civil Engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and conducted graduate Labor studies at the Catholic University of Leuven, in Belgium, obtaining his PhD in Labor Social Sciences.
Before joining CONICYT, he was Executive Director of the Technological Development and Innovation Program of Chile’s Ministry of Economy, and was also in charge of technology policies at that same Ministry until March 2006.
Additionally, Herrera was a member of the Council of CORFO’s Development and Innovation Fund, and participated in FONDEF’s Steering Council.
Between 1997 and 2000, he worked as Director of Research and Assessment of the Ministry of Economy’s Technological Innovation Program. Herrera was a member of the Council of the Agricultural Innovation Foundation (FIA), and Vice–President of the National Fund for Technological and Productive Development (FONTEC).
