Patricio Vásquez graduated in Civil Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María in Chile, and he possesses a Master’s degree in Technology Management from the University of Surrey (United Kingdom). Additionally, he has specialized in Technological Management, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.
He is currently Director of FONDEQUIP, and previously was in charge of the Department of Strategic Studies and Planning, also at CONICYT.
His professional background is closely linked to projects in R+D, innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship. At the beginning of his career, Vásquez worked –both in Chile and in the United States– for technological companies that are focused on satellite and mobile communications. He later migrated to R+D and technological transfer projects based in the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, respectively. After finishing his Master’s degree in England, he worked in technology management for the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) at the University of Surrey.
Patricio Vásquez has worked as a consultant for R+D, innovation, entrepreneurship, and R+D policy projects, and has been a presenter and representative at different national and international agencies, such as the OECD and APEC. Presently, his areas of interest are policy development for scientific equipment, the role of the National Innovation System, support for R+D–based entrepreneurship, and motivation and performance at work, as cross–cutting issues.
