Fourth National Competition for Centres of Excellence in Research in Priority Areas FONDAP 2011

This competition is designed to foster development in Chile scientific research centers of excellence and high impact framed in priority areas to respond to a problem of great importance for the country and aimed at the formation or consolidation of research teams. Projects must be addressed in a multidisciplinary and contribute to excellence in basic research in the priority area in which fall, through the association of researchers(as) domestic and foreign(as) Centers of Research Excellence to become an international. The Centers who apply must achieve a high level of development, inserted into global networks recognized, have a significant number of researchers(as) with proven productivity, and make a significant scientific contribution in one of the following priority areas:

  • Agriculture and / or Sustainable Aquaculture
  • Climate Change
  • Sustainable Urban Development
  • Natural Disasters
  • Solar Energy
  • Peoples

Duration: El proyecto tendrá una duración de 5 years old, extended one time for a further period of 5 years old, subject to the results of a comprehensive assessment to be made in the second half of the fifth year of implementation

Benefits: The projects submitted to the competition must have a research proposal for the creation associative, operation and / or consolidation of a Centre of Research Excellence, under the eaves of a sponsoring institution. The Center will include a concrete integration strategy with at least one center or an international scientific network. The funds obtained through this contest may be for financing activities that contribute to the fulfillment of project objectives. The amount requested must conform strictly to the real needs of the project. Among the eligible items include staff, tickets and living expenses, internationalization, operating expenses, capital goods, infrastructure, overhead, inter alia.

The competition is aimed at multidisciplinary groups of researchers with a distinguished career in research.

  • Closing Date to Universities: Tuesday 15 May 2012 to 16:00 hours.
