OBJETIVO
Encourage development in Chile it to scientific research centers of excellence and high impact, framed in priority areas to respond to a problem of great importance for the country or a special opportunity, where the focus, structure and size of these facilities to establish scientific research that goes beyond that which can be achieved with conventional financing sources. Projects must be addressed in a multidisciplinary and contribute to excellence in basic research in the priority area in which fall, through the association of researchers(as) domestic and foreign(as) Research Centers to become an international. The Centers must achieve a high level of development, inserted into global networks recognized, have a significant number of researchers(as) with proven productivity, and make a significant scientific contribution in one of the following priority areas:
Science Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic
It takes advantage of its proximity to the Antarctic continent for the establishment in Chile, and particularly in the Magallanes Region, scientific and logistical node in Antarctic research attracting global research excellence. It is an "opportunity-country" comparable to the one presented 30 years ago in the case of astronomy. Wanted integrative and interdisciplinary approaches to address fundamental issues in the areas of earth science, atmospheric and ocean sciences, glaciology, biology and environmental aspects related to the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic. The proposal must integrate several centers and leading research groups Antarctic, demonstrate collaborative efforts with researchers of excellence past and documenting how the Centre will cooperate with international institutions and world-class programs. The proposals presented in this area must submit a letter of logistic feasibility Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH)(View Point bases 5.h).
Conflict and Coexistence in the Chile Current
The country exhibits social conflict rates are troubling for a company wishing to move rapidly towards the development. It is proposed to form a national multidisciplinary group in the area of social sciences and humanities that focuses its efforts on research of social conflicts, its forms and cultural bases, to improve the climate of national coexistence. The research should help to generate knowledge and action proposals that promote a better quality of life, social and cultural integration of citizens and the creation of spaces for dialogue and consensus seeking. Effective collaboration is valued international centers in the topic.
Early Human Development in Extreme Environments
Chile should become a privileged space in which search and fundamental questions of humanity can express themselves and talk. In this sense, our country is a natural laboratory in the Americas to conduct research with international impact in the early development of communities dwelling extreme environments. It requires a multidisciplinary approach of anthropologists, Archaeologists, Biologists and paleontologists, among other disciplines, to study how humans evolved in coastal and high-altitude desert in the north, as well as cold and inhospitable climates of Patagonia. It is a narrative form that accounts for the diverse origins of national identity actively participate most representative groups in the thematic. The effective contribution of researchers world-class universities in the subject will be highly valued.
Medicine for Chronic Diseases of the XXI Century
The social and economic development, changing lifestyles and improved life expectancy, have produced an increase in the prevalence and incidence of chronic non-communicable diseases. This group of disorders represent by far the greatest burden of disease to the health system in Chile and the world, there is a growing demand biomedical knowledge that can respond to the social demands of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this group of pathologies. The breakthrough in the diagnosis of diseases and new knowledge of the molecular determinants involved in susceptibility to diseases, population indicate that there are factors that are important in determining disease prevalence. You want to have a research center of excellence to be able to address from a multidisciplinary, identifying mechanisms leading to the generation of prevention, diagnosis and / or treatment. This center should generate knowledge through various approaches involving genetics, Cell Biology, physiology, genomics, pharmacology, bioinformatics and epidemiological, inter. The Center will conduct basic and clinical research that generates high impact knowledge and contribute to the training of specialized human resources, the design and application of biomedical knowledge for the development of personalized medicine, pharmacogenomics and related emerging areas. The partnership with major international medical research centers should be an integral part of the proposal.
Aging Process and Factors Associated with Health and Wellbeing of Adults
Chile seen accelerated population aging. This demographic change affects the quality of life of people and imposes pressing demands on social security systems and health. Need to generate knowledge from multiple disciplines (inter, demography, psychology, sociology, genetics, neuroscience and medicine) designed to show the genetic determinants, environmental, cultural and biological and psychosocial mechanisms of the aging process, and the factors that promote or retard the decline of skills and competencies in older adults. Project is expected to involve foreign centers of the world and propose effective generation of collaborative networks.
Water Resources
The future development of the country demands a growing quantity and quality of water resources, en particular, for agriculture and mining. Under this scenario of increasing demand-and supply will eventually decrease due to climate change- is urgently required scientific and technological research for use in developing and adopting innovative solutions that improve the integrated management of water resources. It will assess the development of methodologies for the quantification of the resource and use predictive models, as well as the study of technologies for gathering, remote storage and transport; efficient use and reuse of process water; and desalting seawater using, inter. The proposal must actively involve groups and established regional centers, and effective actions linking present and future collaboration with leading international centers in the topic.
