The Ministry of Health and the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research, CONICYT, Contest IX convened the National Research and Development Projects in Health, initiative that seeks to generate scientific and technological knowledge needed to improve population health in Chile.
The deadline for submitting projects, which can obtain the maximum amount of financing 30 million and have a maximum duration of 24 months- expires 11 April 2012.
To date, FONIS has generated eight Contests Projects Health Research and Development, funding between 2004 and 2011 total 215 research projects in different areas of health for more than 4.200 million pesos.

Open space proposals to assess new and existing health technologies, when they do not have sufficient evidence of effectiveness or efficiency, also calling other concerned in areas relevant to national public health traditionally have not had access to capacity building in research, such as health management research, in primary care, occupational and environmental health, and other general guidelines established in their, thereby stimulating various sectors related to health in Chile.
Participation in this contest, proponents that have legal personality and are bodies or public or nonprofit private, as: health services, hospitals, universities, study centers, municipalities, Professional institutes on research, foundations, etc..
