Scientific cooperation in science and technology should be a substantial part of the foreign policy of governments for their ability to contribute to the development of a competitive, job-creating. In a globalized world the universality of knowledge concerns the ongoing exchange between national and international groups.
International collaboration in science, technology and innovation is imperative to address the most pressing global challenges of our time. Issues such as climate change, food security, access to freshwater sources and energy security can not be addressed by a single country. The solutions to these complex problems require a coordinated international effort and commitment of individuals, institutions and organizations from all countries. These issues challenge the scientific and technical capabilities of the countries to solve by themselves. They must be worked globally.
For our country, international cooperation in science and technology is an essential element for the development of joint efforts in the generation and transmission of knowledge, advanced human capital formation and create networks that allow us to be informed, participate and access cutting-edge research being done in the leading countries in science and technology.
CONICYT implements and manages the policy of international cooperation and R & D + i based on the two pillars: fostering human capital formation and the strengthening and development of the Science and Technology Base. In this context, CONICYT, promotes and supports the integration of the national scientific community with their peers abroad, having as purposes scientific excellence, mutual benefit and common interests. Also, links the work of the institution with international science and technology.
Among the countries with which it has a privileged relationship CONICYT-for historical reasons, by the quality of science and technology offer, and by strong links between the scientific communities of both countries- is France and its various ministries and specialized agencies.
