The Center's mission FONDAP Cellular Regulation and Pathology is to create a stimulating environment that encourages leadership and excellence in scientific research. Both teachers and students should share a common fascination for finding the boundaries of scientific knowledge; this should lead to attractive discoveries and new elucidating cellular and molecular mechanisms relevant in Biomedicine.
In the early years of the Center, research was proposed and conducted primarily through the implementation of projects related conceptually, which were developed by a core group of five researchers, and the corresponding groups of technical assistants, PhD students and postdoctoral.
These projects have a particular relationship to the study of various molecular and cellular events that form the basis of degenerative diseases that have high impact on particular population groups; including, Alzheimer, Cancer, Hypertension, Muscular Dystrophy, Diabetes, Atherosclerosis and Autoimmunity, having the objective to contribute to the knowledge we have about these pathologies, in the hope to provide better therapies expectations to achieve slow, and eventually cure, progressive course.
In the research area, its mission is to produce and transmit knowledge applicable to the understanding of chronic and progressive, while its educational project contributes to the formation of new scientific oriented biomedical problems. Above, within the framework of Cellular Regulation as a nexus of intense interaction between basic science and technological applications, medicine being the recipient not only natural, but its constant source of inspiration.
