Chile and Brazil organize joint call to investigate issues of population aging

  • CNPq and CONICYT invite scientists from both countries, to participate in this contest relieving the impact that research can achieve for this age group.

The competition is open to groups of researchers with experience in the area of ​​aging, residents in Chile in conjunction with researchers from Brazil.

In order to help improve the quality of life of older people and their environment, along with supporting the formulation of public policies for this sector, la National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research, CONICYT, through its International Cooperation Programme, and the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development of Brazil, CNPq, call for participation of First Competition for Joint Research Projects around the aging process in Chile and Brazil, which extends between the postulation 18 August and 26 September 2016.

The call is part of the Cooperation Agreement between CNPq and CONICYT, signed in mid 2015, in which both countries undertake to develop and strengthen their cooperation in the fields of science and technology and innovation. CONICYT has worked in recent years to promote cooperation between Chilean researchers and their peers in Brazil, one of the key countries in the region.

Director (s) International Cooperation Program of CONICYT, Rodrigo Monsalve, It stresses that the theme of this call "is based on the demographic prospects of both countries 2050 and the need to support this scenario. Thus, support will be given exclusively to bi-national scientific research projects, technology and innovation, and contribute to the formulation of public policies, give greater mobility to researchers involved in order to strengthen their collaborative networks, and further promote the training of researchers from Chile and Brazil ".

The competition is aimed at groups of researchers with experience in the area of ​​aging, residents in Chile in conjunction with researchers from Brazil, and involve the participation of one or more Chilean and Brazilian institutions dedicated to scientific research.

Regarding benefits, CONICYT finance activities and expenditures of researchers in Chile, and CNPq will take over the activities and expenditures of researchers in Brazil. The funding provided by CONICYT for team members in Chile will be a maximum amount of USD $ 150,000 per project; the same amount will be granted by Brazilian researchers CNPq.
