Greeting S.E. President Michelle Bachelet Republic

To mark the 39th anniversary of the National Commission for Scientific and Technological, Conicyt, I want to extend a greeting to all of this important institution officials, as well as to people, both the public and private sectors, work to ensure that Chile will become a scientific and technological center in the region.

 

Since its inception, Conicyt has be to advise the Government on matters of Science, Technology and Innovation, becoming the coordinator and coordinating body for policies that are generated in this area. In these years, has had the ability to design and implement important strategic objectives which have promoted, driven, strengthened and disseminated, both research and development of basic sciences, applied and excellence. We must be able, and that's one of the missions of Conicyt, to continue generating instances where creative efforts of Chile are brought together and enhance these areas to allow us to enter the category of developed country. That must be our commitment and this institution.

 

Drivers axes of the task we have assumed as Government consider strengthening international ties and development cooperation in matters of Science, Technology and Innovation, improve access to scientific and technological information, facilitate innovation initiatives, joint development alliances and especially encourage the formation of advanced human capital. I especially want to mention the emphasis given to the social sciences in this process, essential to humanize the achievements and build the country we want people element.

 

As- Government must continue to promote scientific and technological research in all the national territory, through the development of policies and programs in different regions, as is done today in the Regional Programs, Fondecyt, Fondef, Fondap, Explore, World Bank and Centres of Excellence, inter alia. Is everyone making such programs and projects carried out in partnership with organizations from different regions achieve better development, while approaching Science, Technology and Innovation Community.

 

Today, in an increasingly globalized and interdependent world, where the advances of Science, Technology and innovation are key to the growth of countries, becomes more important, both management, design the policies that the Government to make Conicyt a cornerstone of progress as a nation. Therefore I see with pleasure that this institution is inserted into a major institutional modernization, allowing you to run better development plans.

 

Finally, I do not want to miss this opportunity to, with reiterate my congratulations on a new anniversary, urge them to continue working with even more enthusiasm to continue building the Chile we all dream.
