UNIVERSITY OF CONCEPTION

GENERAL BACKGROUND

 

Founded year 1919, University of Concepción is an autonomous institution of higher education that was created by the community of Conception and organized as a corporation under private law.

Its objectives are to provide training of undergraduate and graduate, promote basic and applied research, community to provide technical and technological assistance, and encourage the dissemination and extension of culture according to the needs of regional and national development.

The University of Concepción is located in the Bío-Bío, in the central-south of the country, developing their work on three campuses. In Concepcion, Headquarters Headquarters, University has a campus of 45 hectares that stands out for the beauty of its gardens, parks and surrounding forests, in the midst of which rise the buildings of fifteen Faculties, besides libraries, classrooms, laboratories, museums, research, gyms, casinos and other units with more than 157.260 m2 built. In Chillán, academic work of the three Faculties that exist there is done fully in campus 96 hectares with a floor area exceeding the 28.196 m2. The University Academic Unit that owns in Los Angeles stands on a campus of more than 6 hectares where over 9.100 m2 fully met the requirements related to the careers that are offered there.

The University of Concepción focuses his work in all areas of knowledge.

These 507 current research projects carried out by the University of Concepción during the year 2006, are funded by the Research (257), CONICYT (195) and externals (55).

The research work of the University of Concepción generates the publication of numerous articles in professional journals both at home and abroad.

 

LIBRARY

 

Library services at the University of Concepción are integrated by Central Library, occupying a building 10.000 m2, six Faculty Libraries, all Central Campus, and two Campi Libraries, in Chillán and Los Angeles, respectively. His totals bibliographic 440.000 books; 7.000 Serials; 15.491 Thesis Titles, and access to local databases and national. It has access to 2.840 electronic journal titles, the full text, y the 7 databases with access to 10.947 documents and full-text books.

 

SOCIO-ECONOMIC BENEFITS

 

Student Welfare Policy at the University of Concepción is aimed at facilitating the development of university studies undergraduate students, helping to solve problems that might interfere. For this, University offers Scholarships for Academic Excellence and Sports, Tariff Scholarship, Food & Residence poor socioeconomic status students, Student Loan Programs and Health Care Programs, Dental and other specialties.

SPORT, RECREATION AND CULTURE

 

Through the Office of Student Services, Concepción University offers students the opportunity to develop their sporting and artistic concerns as part of their personal and professional.

The Sports Service Unit is responsible for meeting the need for student physical activity. This offers the opportunity to participate in 30 sports, organized into teams, workshops and branches. Today it serves more than 5.000 students in the year, permanent activities. The supporting infrastructure for these activities is 9 gyms, 2 soccer fields, foosball court, 1 rugby field, 1 pool, 1 multicancha, 1 cancha de hockey, athletic track, 2 tennis court, sauna, and fitness room.

In the arts area, through extracurricular activities Unit, University offers its students courses in drama, modern dance, painting, salsa, meringue, tango, oratory, debate, musical ensemble, etc. Also, stable has three nationally recognized groups such as Latin American Folkloric Ballet, Set Huenuicán and Modern Dance group.
