January 2010. Fondef reports that it has extended the deadline for submission of projects to the national competitions of the following programs: Diversification Programme Chilean Aquaculture and Breeding Program in Fruit: Development Tools based Biotechnology Genomics. The new deadline for submitting projects is Monday 22 March 2010, to 17:00 hours.

Breeding Program in Fruit. Development of biotechnological tools using genomics
Considering the successful results of Genome Program projects Renewable Natural Resources of the first call, the promising results we are getting from the second call and the country's need to develop new varieties and fruit export treasury, CONICYT, through its program call FONDEF resolved first contest Breeding Program on Fruit for the development of biotechnological tools using genomics. This program will be coordinated with breeding programs to be financed by CORFO INNOVA CHILE.
Purpose
Contribute to the country's participation in global development of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics applied to relevant areas of the national economy.
Description
Bankable projects are those that comply with the rules and objectives of each call. All projects must incorporate research, development and technology transfer.
The amount requested Genome Program will be a percentage of the total project cost, which may not exceed the 70%. The deadline for a project is 5 years old.
