The National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research, CONICYT, through the IDeA program Fondef, reported results of the second version of Technological Research Competition, to allocate more than $ 1.900 million 17 R & D projects with potential economic and / or social.
Areas that a larger amount of concentrated efforts were approved Engineering I (industrial, management, ICT and economics and finance) Agriculture and Forestry, five projects both; Social Sciences and Education with three; Ingeniería II (civil, mechanical and materials, chemistry, electrical and electronics, energy and environment) two; while Fisheries and Aquaculture and area Health initiative succeeded each.
Gonzalo Jordan, Program director Fondef, stressed that this second contest IDeA IT aroused the interest of researchers again, reaching 63 Applications. "The main challenge is to strengthen Fondef technology development based on scientific knowledge. In this sense, IDeA our competition has been permanently supporting projects that have already developed a first stage of research where there is already a proof of concept pilot or result ", commented.
In this competition increased the number of projects submitted by women compared to the first version, passing 14 a 24 initiatives, while those presented by men got out of 47 a 39.
With respect to beneficiary institutions, this time was the Universidad de Chile the awarded projects which received, six initiatives, followed by Pontifical Catholic University of Chile three; the Valparaiso University and University of Concepción two projects each; and North Catholic University, the University of Leeds, the University of Talca and Interdisciplinary Program for Research in Education, one.
The deadline for implementation of the selected projects is 24 months and the amount subsidized by CONICYT equivalent to 80% the total cost of the initiative, with amounts that reach $ 120 million.
