The science center CEAZA, through work climatologist Dr. José Rutllant, participated during January in a speech to high school teachers on Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics at the training workshop in Earth Sciences: natural hazards and sustainability.
The talk was held on 14 January in the Hall of Presidents Former National Congress and was organized by the Department. Geophysics of the University of Chile and sponsored by the same university , by the Commission on the Future Challenges Senate. Especially teachers attended area Tirúa, Bío-Bío.
"My presentation was geared toward physical basis for understanding the tendency to drought in the north-central and south-central Chile", says researcher.
Also, within the School Season: Summer 2014, University of Chile, Dr.. Rutllant dictated part of the course "Silence and Light of Heaven Chile", specifically made the presentation of the topic: "Murmurs, whispers and roars: the winds of Chile ".
Support internships
As part of the institutional mission CEAZA supporting the formation of human capital, also Dr. Rutllant was responsible for student practice of meteorology at the University of Valparaíso Andrés Moncada, who worked on the identification and characterization of atmospheric circulation patterns associated with the main summer storms recorded on the Region of Coquimbo.
"The cordilleranas rainfall in recent years have been unusually strong during the summer season. This, He has called the scientific interest and has opened a hope on a region where winter rains appear to be dwindling ", explains the student report.
In this line of support for training, glaciology area CEAZA tutoró practices of three students, Eduardo Yáñez and Melany Muñoz areas of geology at the Catholic University of the North and Paulina Bobadilla of the Catholic University of Temuco career of renewable natural resources.
Eduardo Yáñez worked using data to understand the temperature characteristics of rock glaciers Elqui Valley. As, Melany Muñoz and Paulina Bobadilla worked on a project to calculate the absorption of solar radiation in the Tapado glacier during a season.
"We hope that in this way students gain new skills in numerical modeling and apply them in real-world problems. Also, all this work provides information on development projects in glaciology group ", explains Dr.. Shelley MacDonell, CEAZA glaciologist and tutor students latter.
